Xavion Dates, 25, faces seven criminal counts including premeditated first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Aaliyah Wilson in west Wichita.

A Sedgwick County judge set his bond at $10 million at his first court appearance Tuesday, Oct. 13, KSN reported.

Prosecutors charged Dates with premeditated first-degree murder or, in the alternative, first-degree murder in the commission of a felony. He also faces two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and theft of property or services less than $1,500, according to KSN's report on the court appearance.

Dates is scheduled to return to court Monday, Oct. 26.

Wilson, 22, was found inside an apartment near Tyler Road and Maple Street with a gunshot wound to her upper body on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to a Wichita Police Department press release. Her sister called 911. Wilson died at the scene.

Investigators allege the shooting followed an argument between Wilson and Dates, who was her boyfriend.

After the shooting, Dates allegedly fled the apartment and carjacked a white 2020 Toyota RAV4 from a male driver in the 300 block of South Turquoise, according to the police press release. The driver was not injured. Officers later located the vehicle at 505 N. Rock Road, but Dates was not there.

Dates turned himself in at Wichita City Hall at approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. His surrender was coordinated with the help of former Wichita City Council member Brandon Johnson, members of Dates' family and members of the Cure Violence ICT organization, the Wichita Eagle reported.

In a written statement to KSN on Oct. 8, Johnson said his role was "strictly supportive" and that he worked directly with Chief Sullivan and Deputy Chief Paul Duff to facilitate the peaceful surrender.

Close to 100 people attended a vigil for Wilson on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the same apartment complex where she was killed, bringing balloons, flowers and photos, the Wichita Eagle reported. Wilson's mother, Marcasjha Blacknell Porter, described her daughter as "sweet and kind, and she loved life."

His bond was set at $10 million. His next court appearance is set for Monday, Oct. 26.
