A 15-year-old boy shot in north Wichita on Oct. 4 died at a hospital four days later, the Wichita Police Department confirmed Monday, Oct. 12.

The teen died Thursday, Oct. 8, according to KWCH. WPD has not publicly identified the victim. A family-organized GoFundMe identifies him by the first name Jamari. The fundraiser describes him as a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew and uncle.

"Our hearts are absolutely shattered as we face this devastating and unimaginable news," Cinthia Perales, the fundraiser's organizer, wrote on the fundraiser page.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Vassar and Fairmount avenues in north Wichita, close to Brooks Magnet Middle School, KSN reported. KWCH placed the intersection northeast of 27th Street North and Hillside. Officers responded to a report of gunshots at about 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, according to KAKE.

Police did not find the victim at the scene. While officers investigated, the wounded teen arrived at Wesley Woodlawn hospital in the 2600 block of North Woodlawn. He was then transported to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition, where he remained until his death.

No arrests have been announced. WPD said investigators continue to actively work the case. The department has released no information about a suspect or the circumstances of the shooting.

The Wichita Eagle reported Oct. 5 that police did not confirm whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the shooting at that time. The Eagle's initial report noted officers were called to Vassar and Fairmount just before 4 p.m. that Sunday.

The GoFundMe had raised $4,283 toward a $9,000 goal for funeral expenses as of Monday, with 39 donations.
