Wichita State women's tennis assistant coach Michaela Kissell-Eddins was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame on Sept. 12 in Huntington, W.Va.
The honor caps a two-season playing career at Marshall University in which Kissell-Eddins compiled a combined singles and doubles record of 110-41. She made consecutive NCAA Singles Tournament appearances and reached the NCAA Doubles Tournament with partner Dominika Zapranza.
"I am very grateful to Marshall for this wonderful honor, and celebrating it with my family was so special," Kissell-Eddins said, according to GoShockers.com. "I will always cherish the memories I made during my playing days, and I am very lucky to still be in the game I love as a coach and get to share what I have learned with our team."
In her first season at Marshall in 2010, she earned Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference USA honors in both singles and doubles. She also claimed the ITA Atlantic Region title in singles and doubles that year.
Her senior season was even stronger.
Kissell-Eddins went 19-0 in doubles, helping the Thundering Herd reach No. 28 in the national team rankings, the highest in program history. She earned ITA Atlantic Region Senior of the Year and ITA All-American Scholar Athlete honors, climbing to No. 27 in singles and No. 15 in doubles nationally.
Off the court, she earned the Conference USA Academic Medal of Honor in both her junior and senior years.
Immediate impact at Wichita State
Kissell-Eddins brought that pedigree to Wichita State, and the results showed in her first season on head coach Jacob Eddins' staff. The Shockers posted a 19-match winning streak, breaking the program record of 17 consecutive wins. WSU players earned five American Conference Player of the Week honors, the most since 2018.
The Shockers also reached the American Conference Championship for the first time in program history and made their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance.
Before arriving at Wichita State, Kissell-Eddins built a coaching career across four programs. She served as an assistant at Cornell University from 2011 to 2012, then as assistant and interim head coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 2012 to 2013. As head coach at Western Carolina University from 2013 to 2018, she led the program to 12 wins in 2016 and its first winning season since 1997. She later worked as a volunteer assistant at West Virginia University from 2022 to 2023.
Fall schedule ahead
The Shockers open their 2026 fall schedule Sept. 19 at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C., with Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli competing in singles and doubles, according to the program's fall schedule announcement. WSU then heads to the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 25.
