Maddie Wilson posted 13 kills and a career-high-tying 10 blocks as Wichita State volleyball beat Florida Gulf Coast 3-1 on Sept. 11, snapping a three-match losing streak.

The Shockers (3-4) took the first-ever meeting between the programs in four sets (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22) at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo., according to GoShockers.com. It was Wichita State's first road victory of the 2026 season.

Wilson, a fifth-year middle blocker, hit .440 on 25 attacks and finished with a team-high 18.5 points. Her 10 blocks matched her career best, and the Shockers out-blocked FGCU 13.5 to 5.5 for the match.

The win carried extra weight.

Florida Gulf Coast (2-4) entered as the reigning ASUN regular-season champion, and Wichita State had dropped three straight, including a Sept. 8 sweep by No. 22 Kansas in Lawrence.

Wilson led the Shockers with 119 total blocks in 2025 and has picked up where she left off. In a preseason profile published by The Sunflower, she described what her net dominance means for the offense: "It's really rewarding when you pull the block for your teammates … It's just really rewarding when a dominant presence is known in the middle and you help your teammates score."

Two other Shockers reached double-digit kills. McKenzie Jones finished with 12 and Olivia Cohee added 11 on a .310 clip. Jenna Cubbage chipped in seven kills and seven digs, including the set-point kill in the first set after a successful challenge.

Setter Jordan Heatherly ran the offense with 29 assists and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Heatherly, a preseason all-conference selection in the American Athletic Conference, got help from Addie Oeth, who added 16 assists. Grace Hett anchored the back row with 13 digs.

Wichita State hit .255 as a team. FGCU hit .185.

The third set was the lone blemish. FGCU used a 6-0 run to build a 22-13 lead. The Shockers clawed back with a 6-0 run of their own to make it 22-19 and fended off four set points before falling 25-23.

Head coach Chris Lamb, in his 27th season and the program's all-time wins leader, has leaned on Wilson as the centerpiece of a retooled roster. The Shockers lost 64.5% of their 2025 kills to graduation and injury, according to the program's preseason guide.

The Shockers stay in Columbia for a Saturday, Sept. 12, doubleheader at the Mizzou Tournament: Arkansas State at 10 a.m. and Missouri at 4 p.m.
