Wichita State lost 93-87 to Murray State in a charity exhibition at Koch Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

One 62-second possession in the final minutes told the story. According to the Wichitas Eagle, with less than three minutes left and the Shockers trailing by seven, Wichita State forced three misses. Murray State grabbed the rebound each time. Brigham Rogers finally scored on a putback with 1:45 remaining.

"Oh my goodness," Wichita State head coach Paul Mills said when asked about the possession afterward, according to the Wichita Eagle.

Mills identified two priorities for the film room: rebounding and ball security. He said those are the two areas the Shockers will "really, really tackle" before their next game.

The numbers backed him up. Wichita State won the overall rebounding battle 39-36 but allowed Murray State to collect 12 offensive rebounds. The Shockers also committed 15 turnovers against 15 assists.

Dillon Battie led Wichita State with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. Jahari Long added 17 points. Roman Domon paced Murray State with 17 points and six assists.

The Shockers led 37-36 at halftime, but Murray State shot 51.9% in the second half and outscored Wichita State 57-50 after the break.

The five Shockers on the court for the pivotal late possession were Jordan Frison, Bryce Heard, Jahari Long, T.J. Williams and Will Berg. Battie, who was not on the floor for that sequence, said the team needs to find its man and close out possessions every time the ball comes off the rim.

Murray State coach Ryan Miller said his team made rebounding a point of emphasis, knowing Wichita State's reputation on the glass.

The exhibition was a charity scrimmage, with proceeds split between the Wichita Children's Home and UJUMP, a youth mentoring program founded by former Shocker All-American Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson. Tickets were $20 general admission, and the game was not televised or broadcast on radio.

Wichita State faces VCU in a closed scrimmage Saturday, Oct. 10, and Missouri State in another closed scrimmage Oct. 24. The regular season opener is Nov. 4 against Cal State Northridge at Koch Arena at 6:30 p.m.
