Wichita police identified the woman found dead inside a suitcase at a south Wichita fire station as Lorretta M. Moody, 67.

Two individuals brought the suitcase to Wichita Fire Station 22 at 2659 S. Hydraulic on Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, and told fire personnel a body was inside, according to the Wichita Eagle. Fire crews requested an urgent police response at about 6:25 p.m.

Officers found Moody inside the suitcase. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wichita Police Department announced the homicide investigation in a media advisory on Thursday, Sept. 17, and confirmed Moody's identity Friday, Sept. 18. Her name had been withheld while investigators awaited fingerprint confirmation. Moody would have turned 68 on Sept. 27, KAKE reported.

Moody had been reported missing earlier on Sept. 16, KSN reported, citing records that showed the report was filed in the early morning hours. A social media post from Moody's family, posted the same day she was found, said she had last been seen near the 2400 block of South Mosley.

The two individuals who delivered the suitcase have not been publicly identified. In a Thursday news release reported by KSN, police said detectives were working to determine how Moody and the two individuals were connected.

No arrests had been announced as of Friday. Police have not released Moody's cause of death. Her body was transported to the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner's Office.

Investigators, crime scene technicians and officers worked through the night Wednesday into Thursday morning, interviewing numerous people, processing evidence and canvassing the surrounding neighborhood, KAKE reported. Detectives are still working to build a complete timeline, identify additional locations tied to the case and find more witnesses.

Police said there is no information indicating an ongoing threat to the public.
