Girls flag football in first KSHSAA season
Girls flag football is in its inaugural KSHSAA-sanctioned season after the board of directors voted 61-1 in April 2026 to add the sport, making Kansas the 18th state to recognize it at the high school level, according to the Wichita Eagle. Wichita's seven public high schools, including East, Heights and North, had participated in a pilot program that grew from 11 schools in 2024 to 29 in 2025 before sanctioning took effect.
East opened the sanctioned era with a 7-6 win over Wichita West on Sept. 3 and picked up a 20-6 road win at Wichita South on Sept. 23 to improve to 3-2 at that point, according to KSN. Heights fell to Bishop Carroll 14-0 on opening night, while North lost to Southeast 14-6.
Upcoming schedules for East, Heights and North had not been posted as of Thursday, Oct. 1.
