Three of the Wichita area's top-ranked football programs rolled to lopsided victories Sept. 11, as Derby, Maize and Andover each improved to 2-0.

No. 4 Derby (6A) hammered Hutchinson 55-13 in AV-CTL Division I play at Panther Stadium, according to the Wichita Eagle. The home opener was Derby's first game on its own field since Oct. 31, 2025, according to the Derby Informer. Coach Brandon Clark's Panthers jumped out early and never let up.

Derby's roster features senior quarterback Blade Clark, two-time first-team 6A running back Arieus Finley, second-team lineman Weston Jackson, all-state returner Davon Morrison, and second-team receiver Michael Castillo, according to Wichita Eagle preseason coverage.

No. 7 Maize (6A) crushed No. 7 Salina South (5A) 48-6 in Division I. The defending AV-CTL I champions, who went 10-1 in 2025 under coach Gary Guzman, have outscored opponents 76-19 through two weeks. Quarterback Colt Curry threw for 160 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score in the Week 1 win over Andover Central, according to the Wichita Eagle. Running back Demarye Smith added 162 total yards in that opener.

Salina South entered at 1-0 after junior quarterback Izrael Telles threw for 197 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-33 Week 1 win over Salina Central. The Cougars managed just six points against Maize.

In the marquee AV-CTL Division II matchup, No. 9 Andover (5A) beat rival Andover Central 20-7 at Andover Central. The game marked the earliest meeting between the programs in more than a decade, according to KSN. Andover won last year's Week 8 meeting 28-14.

"Just because we won last week doesn't mean anything … They're still a talented team, and we have to execute when it comes down to every single position on the field," Andover senior lineman and Oklahoma commit Tyson Ross told KSN on Wednesday, Sept. 9, before the rivalry game.

The Trojans won by 13. Andover runs a flexbone offense led by quarterback Will Quinn and running back Pete Vega.

Elsewhere in Division I, Maize South topped Valley Center 48-20 and Eisenhower edged Campus 32-28.

City League

Wichita East dominated Wichita North 69-0. No. 1 Kapaun Mt. Carmel (5A) beat No. 9 Northwest (6A) 49-10. No. 6 Bishop Carroll (5A) defeated Southeast 49-16. Liberal beat Wichita Heights 19-8.

AV-CTL Division II

Arkansas City beat Newton 48-25. No. 8 Salina Central (5A) defeated Goddard 34-20.

AV-CTL Divisions III and IV

No. 4 Buhler (4A) held off Mulvane 28-23. No. 5 Great Bend (4A) shut down No. 7 McPherson 21-3. Winfield beat Circle 42-19. Augusta topped Independence 28-14. No. 1 Andale (3A) demolished El Dorado 73-7. Rose Hill blanked Clearwater 51-0. No. 8 Wellington (4A) beat Collegiate 33-13.

Week 3 is scheduled for Sept. 18.
