Chance Flores-Leach, 27, of Wichita pleaded guilty Sept. 2 to vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run in the death of Henry Collins. Collins was struck and killed Nov. 22, 2025, at Central and Hillside avenues in east Wichita.

Flores-Leach had originally been charged with second-degree murder. Under the plea agreement, the murder charge was dropped in favor of a misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide and a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

What happened

Wichita police said Collins was hit by three vehicles near Central and Hillside at about 6:40 p.m., according to a Wichita Police Department news release. Two drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Flores-Leach's vehicle fled.

Wichita Fire Department crews extricated Collins and transported him to a hospital. KSN reported Collins was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he later died.

An affidavit filed in the case says Flores-Leach told officers he was driving a van to pick up food when someone ran into the street. He said he tried to swerve but could not avoid the person, according to the affidavit.

Why he fled

Flores-Leach told investigators he left the scene because his license was suspended and the vehicle had no insurance and an expired tag, according to the affidavit. He returned home and confessed to his wife, who called 911.

Police arrested Flores-Leach shortly after the crash and booked him into the Sedgwick County Jail on a felony hit-and-run charge.

Bond revoked

Flores-Leach had been free on a $150,000 bond since February, KSN reported. A judge revoked that bond at Wednesday's plea hearing, meaning Flores-Leach is back in custody.

KAKE reported that a trial date had been set before Flores-Leach entered the plea.

What's next

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13. No statements from the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office, defense counsel, or the Collins family appeared in public records as of Wednesday.
